Nick Castellanos Trade Fits

The Phillies have declared Nick Castellanos a fit for the trade block. Where will the aging slugger end up?

This offseason in Philadelphia was expected to be filled with big signings and a buildup of hope for 2026. Unfortunately, the Phillies have yet to add anything to their roster that has a truly significant impact. One of the biggest holdups at the bank has been the process of moving on from aging slugger Nick Castellanos. It’s been made very apparent that Castellanos has overstayed his welcome, and the Phillies are in dire need of trade partners. Here are a few good fits and what to expect in a potential return!

Suitor 1: Chicago White Sox

Chi-Town has found itself in the midst of a rebuild on the south side, but has made an interesting move in adding Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami. It seems like the White Sox are gearing up for a huge trade deadline that could potentially see them move on from a few big names. Nick Castellanos would make a great addition to a young team and could provide a decent trade chip if he has a productive first half. The White Sox currently have Edgar Quero projected at DH and Brooks Baldwin in right field. Castellanos could play more of a bench role to start, and if he gets hot, work his way into Chicago’s young starting lineup.

Mock Trade:

White Sox Receive: Nick Catsellanos, $12 million

Phillies Receive: Everson Periera (OF), PTBNL

Suitor 2: Minnesota Twins

Minnesota went through monumental losses at the 2025 MLB trade deadline. It seems like they’ve hit a bit of a crossroads. Until the Twins’ young core proves they are worth buying in on, adding a player like Castellanos to the mix couldn’t hurt. His veteran presence in a young dugout, along with the potential for steady production make him worthwhile in the Twin Cities. Currently, Minnesota has Trevor Larnach projected to start at DH and young Austin Martin manning a corner outfield position. Castellanos would form a well-rounded platoon with Larnach at DH and could provide a backup option if the youngster Martin were to struggle.

Mock Trade:

Twins Receive: Nick Castellanos, $10 million

Phillies Receive: James Outman (OF)

Suitor 3: Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona is currently watching the rest of the NL West pass them by (other than the Rockies, of course). That being said, they have plenty of young players to maintain a competitive window for years to come. Castellanos would be a stop-gap player for the Snakes who has the upside of being an above-average bat. If things don’t pan out, Arizona has plenty of middling young talent to take his place. The Diamondbacks likely won’t have much life come the 2026 trade deadline, and Castellanos would make a great trade chip as a one-year commitment. There is plenty of room on the AZ bench for Castellanos, and he would have the opportunity to hit his way into the lineup.

Mock Trade:

Diamondbacks Receive: Nick Castellanos, $14 million

Phillies Receive: Tim Tawa (OF), PTBNL

Hopefully, with the departure of Nick Castellanos, it can go back to being “always sunny” in Philadelphia.
