Pulp Fiction, shot and directed by the legendary Quentin Tarantino, is one of my favorite films of all time. A true 10/10 picture, the movie is absurd, well-written, includes terrific acting, and has an elite soundtrack. In this ‘for fun’ piece, let’s recast this legendary motion picture with the best player Major League Baseball has for each role. Obviously, female roles will not be included in this piece, unless anyone wants to volunteer? Other than that, this has nothing to do with appearance; we’re going off vibes. Enjoy!
(SPOILER ALERT)
Vincent Vega (John Travolta): Vinnie Pasquantino (KC, 1B)
Vincent Vega is one of the main characters in this masterpiece of a film. One of the film’s protagonists, Vega, is the centerpiece of the movie’s first chapter. A hitman who kills for a living and works under Marsellus Wallace. Who better to portray this character than the Pasquatch? Vinnie-P’s Italian heritage contributes to the mob vibe, and his overall demeanor is glowing. Get the man a script and watch him work.
Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson): Byron Buxton (MIN, OF)
Jules Winnfield is another one of the film’s three protagonists. He is a hitman who is partnered with Vincent Vega, working under Marsellus Wallace. Winnfield works as a hitman and kills off many characters until he decides to leave the crime business to “walk the earth”. Byron Buxton is a high-flying athlete who’s only missing the part of the story where he leaves Minnesota to walk his own Earth. Buxton is loyal to his city as Winnfield is to his partners and himself. These two AL Central stars are the perfect duo for the front stage of our shot-for-shot remake.
Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis): Bryce Harper (PHI, 1B)
Butch Coolidge is the third of the three protagonists featured. His character is INTENSE. A boxer who is paid off to throw a fight and then doubles back by wagering on himself to win. He screws over Marsellus Wallace and eventually does away with Vega via machine gun. Bryce Harper covers the intensity we’re looking for, and his competitive edge would never allow him to lose on purpose. Harper rounds out our protagonists.
Ringo (Tim Roth): Steven Matz (TB, RP)
Ringo is introduced early on when he sticks up an entire restaurant. I picked Steven Matz because only a reliever would ever do something so reckless (volatility and control issues). Matz had a solid 2025 season, and now he continues it on screen by robbing an entire diner.
Captain Koons (Christopher Walken): Gerrit Cole (NYY, SP)
Captain Koons’ entire character is built around giving a moving monologue to a young Butch Coolidge about his late father. Who better to deliver this loving piece of dialectic than the always sure-speaking Gerrit Cole!
Winston Wolf (Harvey Keitel): Mike Trout (LAA, OF)
The Wolf is basically the guy everyone wants to be. That is, until times get tough. When there’s a problem that’s a bit too much to handle, you call The Wolf. Mike Trout is the perfect Wolf. Who wouldn’t want to be Mike Trout? Well, that is, until you spend your entire career as an Angel and only make the postseason once.
Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames): Tommy Pham (FA, OF)
Marsellus Wallace is the big man upstairs. A force to be reckoned with in the gangster underground. In this role, we’ll be casting the tough-knuckled Tommy Pham. A trained fighter who is the ultimate competitor (watch out, I hear he drafted Malik Nabers, and he’s out for blood). Pham will be running the show from his office and will make occasional appearances later in the film.
Lance (Eric Stoltz): Andrew Cashner (FA, RP)
Lance is a laid-back drug dealer and friend of Vincent Vega. When I think of laid back in a serious situation, I think of gunslinging southpaw Andrew Chafin. The bearded wonder has graciously made his way from team to team, locking down the latter innings for years, and now, he makes his debut on the screen.
Buddy Holly (Steve Buscemi): Tarik Skubal (DET, SP)
Tarik Skubal will make a cameo appearance in about a 30-second role where he takes an order at a restaurant. He will then slowly make his way back to his never-ending arbitration hearing.
Paul (Paul Calderon): Francisco Lindor (NYM, SS)
Paul works as the bartender at Marsellus Wallace’s strip club. Imagine buying yourself a beer from Mr. Smile himself before getting to enjoy yourself at the club. Now THAT’S how you start a weekend.
Marvin (Phil LaMarr): Jose Ramirez (CLE, 3B)
Jose Ramirez’s entire character is based on the fact that he accidentally gets shot in the face by Vinnie Pasquantino. Thanks, Vinnie. No more Jose for any of us, I guess. I guess not. Well, heck already.
